Creating Outlook Rules




In this article we `re going to go into detail, taking you step-by-step through creating your very own rule. After reading this article, you’ll no longer be able to say you don’t know how to create a rule in Outlook.

Everyone’s rules are different, Because they’re different, we `re going to use an example.Your rules will obviously reflect your own needs.

In this example,we want to take all the email that comes in from my boss and file it in a special folder.Written like English, I want to take all the email from boss@mycompany.com and file it into the “Inbox – Messages from the boss” folder.

Getting started: making sure you have the folder

1.open Outlook.

2.Right click on Personal Folders and choose new folder.

3.Enter in the name “Inbox – Messages from the boss” at the top.

4.click OK.

5.Then click Tools, select Rules and Alerts.

6.Click the New Rule button, located in the upper-left corner of the screen.

7.Outlook provides you with a bunch of pre-existing rule templates,but choose Start from a blank rule button.

8.Choose Move messages when they arrive.

9.Click Next.

10.Check Right in From people and distribution list box.

11.Click Next.

12.To specify the email comes from your boss, move your mouse over the people or distribution list and click on the email address you want.

13.Click OK>Next.

14.Check right in Move it to specified folder Box.

15.Click  specified to choose the folder that you want the mails to go to it.

16.Choose Inbox – Messages from the boss.

17.Click Next.

18.In specify a name for  rule enter : name for your rule.

19.Check right in Turn on this rule.

20.Click Finish.
